As the furniture industry and end users ask for PVC-Free upholstery materials they are finding many of the options being introduced to the market cannot stand up to the rigors of every day commercial use. Common issues are:
Founded by chemists and textile engineers, we have a unique understanding of the environmental and health safety impact of a material’s makeup and the correlating performance characteristics of those chemicals and additives. EnviroLeather™ is engineered for heavy for heavy duty commercial use and we’ve addressed these common issues while retaining the advantages of being PVC-Free.
Our ongoing quality control program is second to none. We are able to control the consistency of manufacture through rigorous testing, including chemical resistance, wrinkle recovery, abrasion and scratch resistance. This ensures superior performance every time as we are able to catch problems before they ever reach the field. The result is a well-tailored appearance long after installation and a very small percentage of warranty claims.
Every EnviroLeather™ collection starts with an exclusive urethane-based, TPE formulation that was developed to address the health concerns surrounding PVC and to outperform traditional polyurethane faux leather. The result is soft luxurious leather like material in hundreds of design options that has been proven to work over the last decade.
TPE, or thermoplastic elastomer, is a blend of two or more polymers engineered to impart more elastic properties. There are many different formulations that can be created, each exhibiting different performance properties.
We developed our EnviroLeather™ formulation with superior hydrolytic stability and to withstand heavy traffic and repeated cleaning. We also took care to ensure the product has elastic properties so that it resists wrinkling in the field and you are able to achieve a beautiful and well-tailored appearance with your furniture and it stays that way long after installation.
When looking at the chemistry of a product there is more to consider than just the polymer used, but also additives necessary to meet performance criteria. The EnviroLeather™ urethane-based TPE is designed to be PVC-Free, minimize hazardous VOC emissions and incorporate recycled and renewable materials. Special care was also taken to use additives that would minimize the impact on the environment and our health. It contains no flame retardants, plasticizers, heavy metals, formaldehyde or toxic biocides.
By specifying EnviroLeather™ you can not only feel good that you are doing something to help minimize people’s exposure to harmful toxins. You can also feel confident that EnviroLeather™ will hold up to heavy duty commercial use and remain beautiful long after installation.
Hydrolytic stability, as it relates to faux leather is the resistance to degradation when exposed to heat and humidity. Products with poor hydrolytic stability will degrade quickly, resulting in peeling and cracking of the faux leather surface. A material that initially appears durable can quickly age when exposed to heat, humidity and repeated cleaning resulting in deterioration much quicker than you would anticipate.
